Tampa Personal Fitness Trainer Graduate Takes His Training to the Next Level

A passing hallway conversation last December between Remington College – Tampa Campus Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT) instructors Dave Mason and Nikki Bredwell quickly grew into a serious goal for PFT student Jesse Rodriguez: to dedicate himself, train hard, and enter his first-ever body building competition.

“Dave was talking about the Tampa Bay Classic Body Building Competition, sponsored by John Schleicher’s Superior Sports Productions,” noted Ms. Bredwell, also the Tampa PFT Program Director. The regional competition was scheduled for June 12, 2010, at the Pepin Hospitality Center in Tampa. “This was an incredibly difficult task to undertake for the first time. Several others in the PFT Program also expressed interest, but I think they underestimated the amount of work involved.”

From January through June, with guidance from Mr. Mason and Ms. Bredwell, Jesse began a very intense and disciplined regimen of diet and weight training.

Jesse, an excellent student, finished his Boot Camp in April of 2010 and graduated from the Personal Fitness Trainer Program at Remington College – Tampa Campus in May.

By June, Jesse’s very strict training regimen saw him go from a weight of 226 to 164.9 pounds to qualify for entry into the Novice Light Weight category; he was also entered in the Open Middle Weight category. (See www.tampabayclassicbodybuilding.com for more information.)

On Competition Day, June 12, each contestant performed their posing routine Jessie Rodriguez for 60 seconds while accompanied by music of their own choosing.

First-, second-, and third-place awards were given in each of several categories.

Remington College served as a competition donor/sponsor and was there to support Jesse as well as feature the Campus’s PFT Program at an information booth.

“Jesse worked incredibly hard to qualify for the Novice Light Weight category. He saw a goal that he wanted to accomplish, and he let nothing stand in his way. Although he didn’t place in his categories, his determination and level of personal success is an inspiration to his instructors, his classmates, and his family and friends. We are all very proud of him,” said Ms. Bredwell.

Jesse loves the personal training field and would like to work at a training facility as an independent contractor while he returns to school to earn a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology or exercise science.

He said, “Before I started Remington College, I thought I was fit and knew all I needed to know about the industry. Ninety percent of what I know now came after I joined the program. Being motivated by these two instructors was amazing, and I want to be just like them and know all I can about health and fitness. Mr. Mason’s push to have me body build was one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me. Thanks, Ms. Nikki and Mr. Mason. You’re the bomb!”
